DECISION ON APPEAL
A patent examiner rejected claims 1 and 3-10. The appellant appeals therefrom
under 35 U.S.C. § 134(a). We affirm.
BACKGROUND
The invention at issue on appeal illuminates a switch assembly for a vehicle.
Modern vehicles include electrical input switches for locking and unlocking doors,
opening and closing windows, and controlling seats. Such a switch may include
backlighting to help an occupant locate the switch in the dark; the backlighting is
operated simultaneously with the vehicle's headlights. When the headlights are
