(a) Whenever the holder of any credential issued by the
commission requests in writing that the credential held by him or her
be revoked, the commission shall revoke the credential.
   (b) Notwithstanding a revocation pursuant to subdivision (a), the
commission shall retain its authority to act under subdivision (b) of
Section 44440.
