§ 45-cc. Reckless operation and speed on the canal system. 1.
Notwithstanding any other provisions of this chapter or any inconsistent
local laws, every vessel operated on the canal system, as defined in
subdivision one of section two of the canal law, shall be operated in a
careful and prudent manner in such a way as not to unreasonably
interfere with or endanger any other vessel or person. A violation of
this subdivision or any applicable rules and regulations shall be a
misdemeanor punishable as set forth in section seventy-three-b of this
article.
2. Notwithstanding any other provisions of this chapter or any
inconsistent local laws, no vessel shall be operated on such canal
system within one hundred feet of the shore, a dock, pier, raft, float
or an anchored or moored vessel at a speed exceeding five miles per
hour, unless such vessel is being operated near such shore, dock, float,
pier, raft, or anchored vessel for the purpose of enabling a person
engaged in water skiing to take off or land, and except in those areas
where the canal corporation has established a different speed by rule
and regulation pursuant to the canal law. A violation of this
subdivision or any applicable rules and regulations shall be a violation
punishable as set forth in section seventy-three-c of this article.
