     § 1389.  Applicability of other statutes.
        This subchapter is intended as a supplement to existing
     statutes. The existing statutes which provide for destruction
     may be utilized by officials in lieu of compliance with this
     subchapter. Nothing in this subchapter shall prevent officials
     from retaining records longer than the periods which may be
     provided in schedules approved by the committee.
