Art. 6227a. SIEGE OF BEXAR AND BATTLE OF SAN JACINTO;
PENSIONS TO SURVIVORS AND WIDOWS. Sec. 1. There shall be paid, and
there is hereby granted, an annual pension of Two Thousand, Four
Hundred ($2,400.00) Dollars to every surviving indigent soldier or
indigent volunteer who was in the actual military or naval service
of Texas at the time of the siege of Bexar in December, 1835, or at
the time of the Battle of San Jacinto in April, 1836, and who
actually participated in any battle in Texas in 1836, or who was in
such actual military service for as much as six (6) weeks between
the commencement of the Revolution at Gonzales in 1835 and the 1st
day of January, 1837, and to every indigent surviving widow of any
such soldier or volunteer so long as such widow may live.
Sec. 2. Each applicant for a pension under this law shall make
application in writing for the same to the County Judge of his or
her residence stating the name, age and residence of the applicant,
and in the case of a widow the name of the soldier or volunteer to
whom she was married, and shall state the period of service during
which said soldier or volunteer was in actual military service.
Such application shall be signed and sworn to by the applicant and
forwarded by the County Judge to the Comptroller of Public Accounts
of the State of Texas, who shall thereon forthwith pay such pension
to such applicant in monthly installments so long as he or she shall
live; provided only that the Comptroller may investigate and
determine the genuineness of said application, and upon being
satisfied that same is genuine, he shall proceed as above provided.
