Section 45-45-234 - Pistol Permit.

(a)(1) In Madison County, the fees for the issuance of a license by the sheriff pursuant to Section 13A-11-75, to authorize a person to carry a pistol in a vehicle or concealed on or about his or her person, at the request of the licensee, shall be as provided below:

a. For a regular paper license, the fee shall be ten dollars ($10).

b. For an enhanced security license issued in hard plastic and not capable of being easily damaged or altered, the fee shall be twenty dollars ($20).

(2) One dollar ($1) of each fee shall be retained and used by the county and the remainder of each fee shall be earmarked for the betterment of law enforcement and shall be available upon requisition by the sheriff for that purpose.

(b) The fee shall be collected by the sheriff at the time the application for a license is presented to him or her and the fee shall be paid into the General Fund of Madison County on or before the 10th of the month following collection of same. The monies requisitioned by the sheriff for the betterment of county law enforcement shall be audited annually by the Department of Examiners of Public Accounts.
