CHEUNG et al vs. RITZDORF et al - Page 10

                Interference No. 105,113

an optional feature at column 5, lines 27-28 ("Alternatively, a removable cover could also be
                used."):

Counsel explained that the cited dictionary definitions of "chamber" and "enclose" do not require
                the presence of a top:
JUDGE MARTIN: . . . Claims 1 and 13 use the term chamber to apply to
the spin, rinse and dry apparatus, and I note that in figures 4 and 5, there is no top
on the spin, rinse and dry apparatus although there is reference to an optional top.
MR. BOOTH: You can optionally have one or not.
JUDGE MARTIN: And so I assume you construe that language to mean
there is a top on the spin, rinse and dry unit?
MR. BOOTH: Well, I submit that -- I mean, an enclosure, I mean,
requires it to be surrounded on all sides. At the chamber, they have air for the
spin, rinse and dry, has it enclosed all the way around. It may be open on the top
or it may not be open on the top.
But in the Ritzdorf application, all they ever show is something that is on
one side of the wall. It doesn't have something that surrounds it on all sides.
                                                                 - 10 -
