          objected to, but is indicated to be allowable if rewritten in                
          independent form including all of the limitations of the                     
          independent claim and any intervening claims1.  Claims 12, 17 and            
          18 have been canceled.                                                       

          Appellants’ invention relates to a manual transmission                       
          assembly including a switch (64, 70) associated with a reverse               
          biasing assembly (40) of the transmission wherein the switch is              
          designed to cooperate with the movable housing (60) of a detent              
          mechanism (44) operatively associated with an interlock (42) of              
          the transmission and to indicate when a shift lever (12) of the              
          manually controlled transmission is positioned in or is entering             
          the first gear/reverse gate.  Independent claim 11 is                        
          representative of the subject matter on appeal and a copy of that            
          claim can be found in the Appendix to appellants’ brief.                     

          The prior art references of record relied upon by the                        
          examiner in rejecting the appealed claims are:
