                                   DECISION ON APPEAL                                     
               This appeal is from a rejection of claims 1-18, which are                  
          all of the pending claims.                                                      
                                      THE INVENTION                                       
               The appellant claims an apparatus and method for adjusting                 
          the firmness, support or sag of a mattress.  Claims 1 and 13 are                
          illustrative:                                                                   
               1. Apparatus for adjusting firmness, support, or sag of a                  
               mattress, comprising:                                                      
               a) a substantially convex cross-sectional shape that is                    
                     thicker in the center region and gradually thinner                   
                     toward the edges;
