                Application 10/462,067
                                                INTRODUCTION
Appellants claim an absorbent core and an absorbent article
comprising an absorbent core wherein the absorbent core comprises a first
three-dimensionally patterned stabilized layer, and, a second absorbent layer
adjacent the first absorbent layer, wherein the second absorbent layer
                comprises a non-fugitive densification agent (claims 1 and 47).
                      Claims 1, 8, 24, 41, 47, 48, and 491 are illustrative:
                1. An absorbent core for use in an absorbent article comprising:
                      c.  a first three dimensionally patterned stabilized absorbent layer;
                and,
                      d. a second absorbent layer adjacent the first absorbent layer, wherein
the second absorbent layer comprises a non-fugitive densification agent.
                8. The absorbent core of claim 7 wherein the mixture of fluff fibers and
                superabsorbent is unstabilized.
                24. An absorbent core for use in an absorbent article comprising:
                      b. a first three dimensionally patterned stabilized absorbent layer
having a longitudinal axis, a lateral axis and a z-direction axis normal to the
longitudinal and lateral axes, the first three dimensionally patterned
stabilized absorbent layer comprising longitudinally opposite ends, laterally
opposite side edges, an upper surface having a three-dimensional topography
relative to the longitudinal and lateral axes and defining a plurality of peaks
and valleys of the upper surface relative to the z-direction, and a lower
surface having a three-dimensional topography relative to the longitudinal
and lateral axes and defining a plurality of the peaks and valleys of the lower

1 Claims 1 and 24 do not follow the usual hierarchy of lettering used for
bullets in claims (i.e., beginning with the letter “a” and proceeding in
alphabetical order). Specifically, claim 1 begins with the letter “c” for the
bulleting and claim 24 begins with the letter “b” for the bulleting. To avoid
any appearance that the claims are incomplete, this matter should be
addressed in any further prosecution of these claims.
                                                     2
