(a) A licensee is exempt from the payment of the renewal fee and from meeting the requirements set forth in Section 2649 if he or she has applied to the board for retired license status. A holder of a license in retired status pursuant to this section shall not engage in the practice of, or assist in the provision of, physical therapy unless the licensee applies for renewal and meets all of the requirements as set forth in Section 2644.
(b) This section shall remain in effect only until January 1, 2019, and as of that date is repealed.
