Communication of information to patient or person caring for him.
1. Upon receipt of a prescription and after review of the patient’s record, a pharmacist shall communicate matters which will enhance therapy through drugs with the patient or a person caring for him. The communication must include appropriate elements of counseling for the patient, as established in regulations adopted by the Board. The communication must be in person if practicable, or by telephone or in writing if the patient or the person caring for him is not present at the pharmacy.
2. Additional information may be used to supplement counseling when appropriate, including leaflets, pictogram labels, video programs and other such information.
3. Counseling is not required for inpatients of a hospital or a licensed health care facility where administration of drugs is provided.
