                Appeal 2007-1281
                Application 10/104,386
           1 Claim Construction
2 1. The Specification discloses that “the bonding area of the slider 40
3 of the reverse type of HGA is provided on the opposite side of the flexure to
4 that of the conventional HGA.” (Specification 5:27-29).
5 2. The Specification does not provide a lexicographic definition for
           6 the term “bonding area.”
7 3. The ordinary and usual meaning of “bonding area” is any area
8 where an attachment is formed.
           9
          10 The Invention
11 4. Appellant states at page 5, lines 22-24 of the Specification that
12 “[s]ome traces 31 with associated bound pads 32 on the FPC 30 are used as
13 signal lines, and some bump pads 41 on the slider 40 [are] used as slider MR
14 element terminals, as shown in Figs. 2.1 and 2.2.”
          15
          16 Zeng
17 5. Zeng describes that “[a] slider 240 is attached to a gimbaled region
18 (obscured by the slider 240) of the flexure 350.” (col. 7, ll. 15-16).
19 6. Zeng describes that “[t]he flexure legs 390, nearto the flexure distal
20 end 360, support a gimbaled region 370 to which the slider (not shown)
21 would be attached.” (col. 8, ll. 61-63).
22 7. Zeng further states at column 9, lines 5-6, that “the slider
23 240 is attached to the gimbaled region 370 using an adhesive.”

                                                     4
