General Laws of Massachusetts - Chapter 33 Militia - Section 57 Military duty on election day; exceptions; penalty

Section 57. Except while on duty under section forty, forty-one, forty-two or sixty, or in obedience to the commander-in-chief, no officer or enlisted person shall be required to perform military duty during the time when polls are open for an election in the city or town where he resides; and an officer parading his unit, or ordering it to duty, contrary to this section, shall be liable to trial and punishment as a court-martial may direct.
