If the pen is put down in an effective area (and a line drawn is at least as long as a reference length), an editing function is performed even if the pen is moved into the ineffective area during the pen stroke as shown in Figure 22 of the specification. (Id. at 3-4.) If the pen is put down in the ineffective area, editing is prevented even if (a line drawn is of sufficient length and) the pen is moved into the effective area during the pen stroke as shown in Figure 23 of the specification. (Id. at 4.) A further understanding of the invention can be achieved by reading the following claim. 19.
