Section 45-45-32 - Library board.

(a) Upon the adoption of an ordinance by the Huntsville City Council authorizing the appointment of two additional members to the library board established by the City of Huntsville, two additional board members may be appointed to the library board of the city as follows:

(1) One additional board member who is a resident of Madison County may be appointed by the Madison County Commission.

(2) One additional board member who is a resident of the City of Madison in Madison County may be appointed by the City Council of the City of Madison.

(b) The library board member appointed by the Madison County Commission may serve an initial term of two years, and thereafter shall serve a term of four years. The board member appointed by the City of Madison shall serve a term of four years. The board members appointed pursuant to this section shall serve without compensation and shall have the powers and duties of a member of a library board established pursuant to Chapter 90, Title 11.

(c) Effective August 1, 2020, the board shall be known as the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library Board and shall establish and maintain libraries as a part of the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library. Public libraries established and maintained by the board shall serve all citizens of Madison County.
