A dietary fatty acid salt product for ruminants consisting of encapsulated granules which comprise: (A) a core matrix comprising at least one C -C fatty 14 22 acid salt of calcium or magnesium alkaline earth metal; and (B) a polysaccharide, polyvinyl or polypeptide polymeric coating in the form of a continuous film which is an impermeable barrier to volatile organic compounds contained in the core matrix; wherein the encapsulated granules have an average particle size between about 100-5000 microns, and a polymeric coating thickness between about 5-50 microns.
