Claim 1 is illustrative of the invention and reads as follows: 1. A gradient index lens array assembly comprising a plurality of linear gradient index lens arrays, each array having two staggered rows of optical fibers extending along the length of each array, each array connected in a staggered end-to-end configuration forming an extended length linear array assembly.
