Appeal No. 1998-0629 Application 08/234,525 This is a decision on appeal under 35 U.S.C. § 134 from the final rejection of claims 1-43. We reverse. BACKGROUND The disclosed invention is directed to a method and system for optical character recognition by normalizing attributes such as character height, character width, and character position relative to a baseline reference using a standard attribute value determined from the characters themselves. The standard attribute value may be determined from a frequency distribution of a set of the character attribute values. Claim 16 is reproduced below. 16.
