Appeal No. 1998-1571 Application No. 08/022,199 The subject matter on appeal relates to a method for producing a cylindrical coil comprising the steps of imparting a catalyst to the surface of a cylindrical substrate having a particular range of heat conductivity, deactivating portions of the catalyst via irradiation with a laser beam whereby groove portions are formed by removing a part of the substrate corresponding to the groove portions, and applying a plating solution to the substrate which reacts with the catalyst remaining on the substrate.
