The invention is directed to a system for programming symbol readers. Through a graphical menu, a user is able to select desired commands and parameter values for such programming. The invention is concerned with supplying a parameterization process for printed code scanners allowing rapid parameterization of those scanners in a readily repeated and unlimited manner.
