Appeal No. 2003-1883 Application No. 08/953,488 Page 7 printer’s output tray, while informing the user.” Moreover, Mandel discloses (col. 28, lines 22-34) that if a user ignores or overrides a displayed instruction to remove sheets from a full or almost full bin, and sends the print job to the almost full bin anyway, that if there is not enough room in the bin for the print job, that the print job can be split between the user's assigned bin 11 and a newly assigned bin 11 or the overflow tray 11a, or another only partially filled bin, and the user is then informed of that automatically through a message. From these disclosures of Mandel, we find that if a user assigned bin is full, the print job may be redirected to an alternate output area, such as the overflow bin or another unutilized or unassigned bin. We additionally find that notwithstanding appellants' assertions to the contrary, the bin designation controller 100 does not only control assignment of the sheets to the bins after printing, but rather the controller (bin designation means) can designate bins for each of the terminals prior to the printing of the sheets.
