Appeal No. 2003-2031 Application 09/225,193 Invention The invention relates to compression of digital visual images. In particular, the invention relates to a control strategy for dynamically encoding multiple streams of video data in parallel for multiplexing onto a constant bit rate channel. The control strategy comprises a strategy which allow individual encode bit rates to be dynamically adjusted within each video data stream based in part on relative complexity of the multiple streams of video data. See page 1 of Appellants’ specification. Independent claim 1 present in the application is representative of Appellants’ claimed invention and is reproduced as follows: 1.
