Decision on Appeal This is an appeal under 35 U.S.C. § 134 from the decision of the examiner finally rejecting claims 1 and 3 through 19, all of the claims in the application. Claim 1 illustrates appellants’ invention of a method of applying liquid or pasty substances to a backing material by means of a die, and is representative of the claims on appeal: 1. A method of applying liquid or pasty substances to a backing material, the substance being applied by means of a die at least partly to the backing material traveling along the die, wherein, - the die has at least two zones temperature-controlled differently in its cross section and/or along its longitudinal axis; - the die body is bent transversely to the direction of travel of the backing material and - the bending is induced by temperature differences within the die body.
