                                                         BACKGROUND                                                                  
                       The appellants’ invention relates to a camera which computes and indicates a                                  
               measure of focus as a function of focal distance (specification, p. 1).  A copy of the                                
               claims under appeal is set forth in the appendix to the appellants’ brief.                                            
                                                    The Prior Art Reference                                                          
                       The prior art reference of record relied upon by the examiner in rejecting the                                
               appealed claims is:

                                                          The Rejection                                                              
                       Claims 1 to 6 and 8 to 13 stand rejected under 35 U.S.C. § 102(b) as being                                    
               anticipated by Miyamoto.2                                                                                             
                       Rather than reiterate the conflicting viewpoints advanced by the examiner and                                 
               the appellants regarding the above-noted rejections, we make reference to the answer                                  
               (mailed February 10, 2005) for the examiner's complete reasoning in support of the                                    
               rejections, and to the brief (filed October 7, 2004) and reply brief (filed April 11, 2005)                           
               for the appellants’ arguments thereagainst.
