Appeal 2006-2903 Application 10/296,359 BACKGROUND Appellants’ invention relates to a dimensionally stable gas diffusion electrode comprising an electroconductive catalyst support material having applied thereto a catalyst material-containing coating composition. Gas diffusion electrodes are useful in various electrochemical processes including fuel cells (Specification 1). Claim 1, as presented in the Brief, appears below: 1. A dimensionally stable gas diffusion electrode comprising: an electroconductive catalyst support material having applied thereto a catalyst material-containing coating composition, the catalyst support material selected from the group consisting of a fabric, a bonded fiber web, a foam, a sintered metal body, a felt of electroconductive material, an expanded-metal plate and a metal plate provided with a multiplicity of perforations, the catalyst support material permanently joined mechanically and electroconductively to one of a gas-permeable stiff metallic baseplate, a stiff fabric or an expanded metal; and an electrical connection, wherein the catalyst material-containing coating composition comprises mixtures of finely dispersed silver powder or finely dispersed silver oxide powder or mixtures of silver powder and silver oxide powder and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) powder or of mixtures of finely dispersed silver powder or silver oxide powder or mixtures of silver powder and silver oxide powder, carbon powder and PTFE powder.
