California Elections Code Section 316

CA Elec Code § 316 (2017)  

(a) “Direct primary” is the primary election held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in June in each even-numbered year, to nominate candidates to be voted for at the ensuing general election or to elect members of a party central committee.

(b) This section shall remain in effect only until January 1, 2019, and as of that date is repealed.
