The Supreme Court may appoint and employ during its pleasure such phonographic reporters, assistants, secretaries, librarians, marshals, and other employees as it deems necessary for the performance of the duties and exercise of the powers conferred by law upon it and its members. The marshals shall have the powers of a peace officer in all parts of this state, as defined in Section 830.36 of the Penal Code. Except as in this chapter otherwise provided, the Supreme Court shall determine the duties and fix and pay the compensation of all those officers and employees.
