Section 54. Whoever himself or by his agent or servant renders, manufactures, sells, offers for sale, exposes for sale, takes orders for the future delivery of, has in his possession, keeps in storage, distributes, delivers, transfers or conveys with intent to sell within the commonwealth any article, product or compound made wholly or partly out of any fat, oil or oleaginous substance or compound thereof, not produced from unadulterated milk or cream from the same, which is in imitation of yellow butter produced from unadulterated milk or cream from the same, shall be punished by a fine of not less than one hundred nor more than five hundred dollars or by imprisonment for not more than one year; but this section shall not prohibit the manufacture or sale of uncolored or colored oleomargarine.
