Sec. 281.
(1) Included in the appropriation for fiscal year 2015-2016 in section 236 is funding under the Martin Luther King, Jr. - Cesar Chavez - Rosa Parks initiative for the Morris Hood, Jr. educator development program which is intended to increase the number of academically or economically disadvantaged students who enroll in and complete K-12 teacher education programs at the baccalaureate level. Preference may not be given to participants on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, gender, or national origin. Institutions should encourage participation from those who would otherwise not adequately be represented in the teacher education student population.
(2) The program described in this section shall be administered by each state-approved teacher education institution in a manner prescribed by the workforce development agency.
(3) Approved teacher education institutions may and are encouraged to use student support services funding in coordination with the Morris Hood, Jr. funding to achieve the goals of the program described in this section.
