The division of parks and recreation shall create, supervise, operate, protect, and maintain a system of state parks and promote the use thereof by the public. Within thirty days after August 11, 1949, all state properties, the major function of which is park in nature, shall be so classified and transferred to the department of natural resources, except roadside parks of the department of transportation and lands of the Ohio history connection.
The chief of the division of parks and recreation, with the approval of the director of natural resources, shall determine policies and programs for the division, including the power to make and enforce rules for the government of state parks in accordance with sections 119.01 to 119.13 of the Revised Code. Such chief shall select such number of technical and administrative assistants as the chief deems necessary, with the approval of the director of natural resources, and fix their compensation in accordance with sections 1501.05, 124.14, 124.15, 124.152, and 124.18 of the Revised Code.
