The district attorney may at the discretion of the district attorney, upon the application of the State Fire Marshal or chief deputy state fire marshal, issue a subpoena to summon the attendance of witnesses before the district attorney to testify in relation to any matter which by law is a subject of inquiry and investigation, and require the production of any books, papers or documents the district attorney deems pertinent to an investigation of or relating to evidence pertaining to the cause of a fire.
