§ 3.1-918. (Repealed effective October 1, 2008) Sale of farm machinery or equipment where serial number has be...

Any person who shall knowingly sell or offer for sale in this Commonwealth any new and unused agricultural implement, farm tractor, or other type of farm machinery or equipment, which is identified by a serial number placed thereon by the manufacturer, knowing that the original serial number of which has been removed, defaced, or in any way obliterated, shall be punished by a fine of not more than $500, or by imprisonment in the county jail for a term of not less than 30 nor more than 180 days, either or both, and upon a second or subsequent conviction, shall be punished by imprisonment and fine. The dealer in farm equipment who possesses for sale any farm implement or machinery which has had its serial number removed, defaced, or in any way obliterated, shall have his supplier stamp, attach or scribe, as was originally done, the same serial number as was placed upon the machine or implement at the time of its manufacture. Nothing contained in this section shall be construed to prevent any manufacturer or importer, or his agents, other than dealers, from doing his own numbering on agricultural implements, farm tractors, or other types of farm machinery or equipment, or parts, removed or changed, and replacing the numbered parts. The provisions of this section shall apply only to agricultural implements, farm tractors, or other types of farm machinery or equipment which are sold after June 28, 1952.
