Appeal No. 95-1747 Application 08/047,994 DECISION ON APPEAL This is a decision on appeal from the examiner's final rejection of claims 9 through 18, which are all of the claims remaining in this application. Claims 1 through 8 have been canceled. Appellant's invention relates to an opening device for assisting a user in more easily opening a soft pack (e.g., a blister package) of individually segregated unit dosages of medications. A representative "soft pack" of medications is seen in Figure 4 of appellant's drawings and is designated by reference character (23) therein. As explained on pages 9-10 of the specification, [t]he opener or soft pack puncturing mechanism has a base segment and a top segment which are hingedly connected to one another. The base segment has an orifice located thereon which is of sufficient size to receive a unit dosage section of a soft pack commonly referred to as a “blister” and the top segment has a protrusion adapted to nest within the orifice of the bottom segment. The protrusion of the top segment has sufficient height so as to puncture a dosage unit section of a soft pack medication.
