When the grippers arrive in the position in which grippers 128 and 129 are presently shown, elastic segment 14 is stretched to its desired limit and is overlaying sheet 13 to which it is applied by the grippers. Claim 68 recites an apparatus for transporting a continuous web comprising, inter alia, a first rotary transport device and a second rotary transport device disposed in working relationship with the first rotary transport device. The first rotary transport device has a first outer working surface having a first set of protuberances thereon. The second rotary transport device has a second outer working surface having a second set of protuberances thereon. The first and second outer working surfaces are aligned with each other at a locust of closest approach.
