Appeal No. 1999-1236 Application 07/571,782 From Table 1 in Nevens, it can be seen that all patients 1 through 7 are classified as “decompensated.” However, not all of patients 1 through 7 have all of the symptoms or criteria used in that study to define “decompensated.” For example, patient number 5 lacks the presence of ascites, only patient number 1 has spontaneous bacterial peritonitis, patients 5 and 6 lack hypersplenism or splenomegaly, and patients 1-4 and 6 lack encephalopathy.
