          3 through 7, 10, 12 through 15, 17, 18, 20, 22, 23, 37, 38 and 43           
          have been canceled.                                                         

          As noted on page 1 of the specification, appellants’                        
          invention relates to a method of producing bearing surfaces in              
          the opening or “eye” of a connecting rod such as used in                    
          automobile engines.  More specifically, the claims on appeal are            
          directed to various methods associated with applying such a                 
          bearing surface to a connecting rod eye by applying a bearing               
          layer directly to the connecting rod eye by thermal spraying of a           
          bearing material thereon.  Independent claims 26, 28, 32, 34, 40,           
          45 and 48 are representative of the subject matter on appeal and            
          a copy of those claims may be found in the Appendix to                      
          appellants’ brief.
