Decision on Appeal
This is an appeal under 35 U.S.C. § 134 from the decision of the examiner finally rejecting
claims 1 through 10, which are all of the claims in the application. Claim 1, as it stands of record, is
illustrative of the claims on appeal:
1. In a process in which the surface of a metal article is coated with a coating layer comprising
alkyl-substituted polyphenylene oxide (PPO) forming a PPO-coated article for corrosion protection of
the metal, wherein the improvement comprises heat treating of the PPO-coated metal article in air to
enhance the corrosion protection provided by the PPO to the metal surface in the PPO-coated metal
article.
