Appeal No. 1999-2018 Application 08/571,204 This is a decision on appeal under 35 U.S.C. § 134 from the final rejection of claims 1-9. Claims 10-16 have been canceled. Claims 17-23 stand allowed. We affirm. BACKGROUND The disclosed invention relates to a method of encoding moving images and decoding a coded moving image signal. In particular, the invention relates to selecting a predictive coding mode based upon an inter picture distance. Claim 2 is reproduced below. 2.
