The independent claim 1 is reproduced as follows: 1. A polymer light-emitting diode comprising: (a) a transparent hole-injecting anode layer; (b) an emissive layer comprising an electroluminescent polymer; and (c) an electron-injecting cathode layer; wherein said cathode layer comprises an ultra-thin layer of alkaline earth metal having a thickness of from about 30 to about 60 D.
