Background Chitin is a polymeric compound derived from natural products such as crustacean shells. See the specification, page 3. Chitosan is derived from chitin by deacetylation. Id. The specification discloses that applying a chitosan- containing formulation to the skin reduces skin irritation caused by shaving. Page 1. The chitosan can be applied either before or after shaving.
