Appeal No. 2004-1597 Application No. 09/383,889 BACKGROUND Appellants’ invention relates to data compression systems and methods in which data is transformed prior to compression in a manner that optimizes the applied compression techniques. Representative independent claim 1 is reproduced as follows: 1. A method for improving compression of a stream of data comprising: transforming the data in accordance with a schema; and compressing the transformed data.
