Appeal No. 2005-0868 Application 09/969,728 OPINION We reverse the aforementioned rejections. We need to address only the independent claims, i.e., claims 1 and 7.1 Each of the appellants’ independent claims requires detecting at least one of frequency information and amplitude information of a waveform representing variation of an engine starter supply voltage as voltage waveform information, and controlling a conduction time period of the engine starter in accordance with the voltage waveform information. Murakami discloses a system for assisting the backward movement of a heavy motorcycle by use of a starter motor for cranking an engine of the motorcycle (abstract). Murakami discloses, see id.: A backward drive control system includes a pulse width modulation circuit for supplying operating current to the starter motor in a controlled manner and a device for estimating operating temperature of the starter motor based on the current supplied to the starter motor. When the estimated temperature reaches a predetermined maximum temperature, the operation of the starter motor is compulsorily stopped and prohibited for a certain period or until the starter motor is cooled down to a certain temperature level. 1 1 The examiner does not rely upon Hayashida for any disclosure that remedies the deficiency in Murakami and Makaran as to the independent claims. 3Page: Previous 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 NextLast modified: November 3, 2007
