25. U.S. Patent 5,996,948 issued December 7, 1997, based on the
original application and contained claims 1-6 with originally filed Figures 12
and 13.
26. On January 20, 2000, the Examiner notified Appellant that
entry of the Amendment under 37 C.F.R. § 1.312 was disapproved as the
new “away from the center” direction of the offset was not supported by the
original disclosure.
C. Prosecution of reissue application
27. Applicant filed reissue application 09/772,278 on March 15,
2001, seeking to reissue U.S. Patent 5,996,948.
28. Applicant presented amended versions of original patent claims
1 and 3 along with new reissue application claim 7 for consideration.
29. A copy of reissue application claims 1-7 appears in the Claim
Appendix of Appellant’s Brief.
