17. An apparatus for processing sheet material, having an
input unit for receiving different groups of sheet material separated by
at least one separator in order to be processed one after the other, a
singler for singling sheet material and each separator in order to
transfer each piece of sheet material and each separator singly to a
transport system for guiding the bank notes1 and separators through a
sensor unit and supplying them to output units under the control of a
controller which evaluates the signals of the sensor unit, said
apparatus further comprising a restraining unit located before the
singler and arranged to restrain each separator and at least the
following group of sheet material from singling and to release them
for singling under the control of the controller;
wherein the at least one separator is individually distinguishable
and separate from the sheet material.
