Appeal 2007-1563 Application 10/462,067 surface relative to the z-direction, the first three dimensionally patterned stabilized absorbent layer having a projected area as determined by a Topography Analysis Method, the upper surface of the first three dimensionally patterned stabilized absorbent layer having a vertical area as determined by the Topography Analysis Method of at least about 0.1 cm2 per 1.0 cm2 projected area of the first three dimensionally patterned stabilized absorbent layer; and, c. a second absorbent layer adjacent the first absorbent layer wherein the second absorbent layer contains a non-fugitive densification agent. 41. The absorbent core of claim 24 in combination with the absorbent article, the absorbent article comprising a liner, an outer cover and the first three dimensionally patterned stabilized absorbent layer disposed between the liner and the outer cover whereby the upper surface of the first three dimensionally patterned stabilized absorbent layer generally faces the liner and the lower surface of the first three dimensionally patterned stabilized absorbent layer generally faces the outer cover. 47. An absorbent article comprising an absorbent core, the absorbent core comprising: a. a first three dimensionally patterned stabilized absorbent layer; and, b. a second absorbent layer adjacent the first absorbent layer, wherein the second absorbent layer comprises a non-fugitive densification agent. 48. The absorbent article of claim 47, further comprising a surge layer. 49. The absorbent article of claim 47, further comprising a hydrophilic bodyside liner disposed over the absorbent core to contact the skin of a user.
