Appeal 2007-2188 Application 10/150,667 Appellants’ invention is directed to a protective material and a garment made therefrom. The material includes a resinous support material and a plurality of separate flexible layers. Each layer includes sharp object penetration resistant fibers wherein at least a portion of the fibers are embedded within the support material restricting the movement thereof. The fibers have a specified denier and the fabric made up of the fibers has a specified maximum base weight. Claim 1 is illustrative and reproduced below: 1. A protective material, comprising: a plurality of separate flexible layers, each layer including a plurality of high-strength fibers which resist penetration by a sharp object, the high- strength fibers forming a fabric; and a support material which is a resin, wherein at least a portion of the high-strength fibers are embedded within the support material , thereby restricting relative movement of the high-strength fibers, and wherein the high-strength fibers have a denier of less than or equal to approximately 600, and wherein the fabric has a base wherein the fabric has a base weight of less than or equal to 220 g/mē.
