In the system using Montulli’s method, the server sends the state information to the client which then stores the state information. For example, in a virtual shopping environment, when the user selects a product, the server sends state information related to the product to be stored by the client machine, this information is then sent back to the server when the user checks out and purchases the product. (Col. 2, ll. 30-35, 57-65). 9. Montulli refers to the file that transfers the state information as a cookie file. The cookie also includes information describing the range of URLs for which information should be repeated back. (Col. 7, ll. 15-25). 10. A client computer using Montulli’s method will, before sending a request for a particular web page, check the cookie list to see if there are any cookies that need to accompany the request to that particular server.
