BACKGROUND Prothymosin ", a native thymic polypeptide isolated from thymosin fraction 5, is the precursor from which a number of biologically active peptides, including thymosin " and 1 two related peptides, des-(25-28)-thymosin " and thymosin " , are derived. Thymosin1 11 " is defined by the first 28 amino acid residues of the N-terminal of prothymosin "; des- 1 (25-28)-thymosin " by the first 24 amino acid residues; and, thymosin " by the1 11 sequence of thymosin " plus seven additional residues at the COOH terminus.
