An understanding of the invention can be derived from a reading of exemplary claims 1 and 13, which are reproduced as follows: 1. A toner projection device, comprising: a first electrode; a second electrode a third electrode; an orifice in the third electrode; the second electrode interposed between the first and third electrodes and the second electrode spanning the orifice in the third electrode; a source of a.c. voltage operatively connected to the first and third electrodes; a control means for intermittently applying a d.c. voltage to the second electrode. 13.
